Preface

Japan College of Social Work seeks to develop research in social work education and to foster and train leaders in the field of social welfare, in accordance with the social-economic trends and the current national welfare policies, and through the practice of supporting objects of welfare service, whose fruit the college aims to share with the institutions of social work education throughout the country. The characteristic of the college is that it has been entrusted to foster leaders in the field of social welfare by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (hence a quasi-national college) and is engaged in research and education suitable for national welfare policies of the times. It is also a college equipped as a pioneer and model campus and takes a leading part in Japanese Association of Schools of Social Work. Its achievements are as follows; (1) Fostering and training the leaders in the field of social welfare, (2) Developing research in social work education and disseminating the results, (3) Promotion of international exchange in social work education and research.

The objective of the College is to contribute to advancement of welfare education and research through attempts toward research and development of welfare education, fostering and training of leaders in social welfare activities and  publicize and spread the achievement throughout country by reflecting trend of situation of economy  society and policy of social welfare and, furthermore, by practicing diversified and complicated welfare service and methods of assistance.

Historically

1946.11 Juridical foundation of Central Social Work Association founded and opened School of Japan Social Work in Haramachi, Ushigome Tokyo.

1947.03 Establishment of Vocational College of Japan Social Work (regular and research course)

1948.01 Transfer of school building to Harajuku Shibuya-ku.

1950.03 Establishment of Japan Junior College of Social Work.

1951.03 Establishment of School of Japan Social Work as an academic juridical person (due to an enactment of School Education Law). Opening of Japan Junior College of Social Work Library and Social Work Library.

1958.03 Establishment of Japan College of Social Work (Dept. of  Social Work, dept. of Child Welfare within faculty of Social Welfare).

1962.04 Establishment of Japan College of Social Work as an academic juridical person (renaming of School of Japan Social Work).

1965.05 Opening of Social Work Laboratory.

1981.01 Opening of Children’s Attending Facility for Retarded Children.

1989.04 Transfer to Kiyose, Tokyo. Opening of dept. of Social Welfare within graduate school of Japan College of Social Work.

1992.04 Establishment of Welfare Care Course within dept. of Children Welfare in faculty of Social Welfare.

1994.04 Opening of doctor course (later stage) within graduate school of Japan College of Social Work.

1996.04 Renaming of dept of Social Work to Welfare Planning and dept. of Children Welfare to Welfare Assistance.

1999.04 Setting of enrollment for transfer students to faculty of Social Welfare in Japan College of Social Work.

2001.04 Establishment of Training Course for teachers of dept. of Welfare in High School within dept. of Welfare Planning within faculty of Social Welfare of Japan College of Social Work.

2002.03 Establishment of curse for Manager in the Field of Welfare within faculty of Japan College of Social Work.

2004.04 Opening of Graduate School of Social Service Management
